Ms. Heather

Teacher

Heather Mueller has lived in the Pacific Northwest since the age of five, developing a deep love for the region's lush nature, culture, climate, and people. She received her Bachelor of Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, with an emphasis in Theatre. She then quickly became immersed in the Seattle arts community as an Event Planner for non-profit art organizations, as a dancer, for which she was an Artist Trust Grant recipient, and as a founding member of the Dappin’ Butoh and Kagame dance companies.

Wishing to fulfill her long-time calling as a teacher, Heather received her Master’s in Education from Antioch in Seattle and moved to San Juan Island in 2007, teaching kindergarten and then second grade for ten years. She then taught adults meditation and art therapy, became an Affiliated Counselor, and joined Saint David’s Day School in 2021, following a play-based learning approach.

Heather is pleased to be part of the school’s new chapter as Hope Harbor, a Reggio Emilia-influenced school where play, student-led learning, family connections, and learning environment are all paramount. Heather enjoys her time on glorious San Juan Island with walks, oil painting, Pilates, acting in community theatre, and gardening. She lives gratefully with her long-time partner, David, and their sweet pal of a dog, Mendel.
