Our Preschool Classes
Owl Class 30-42 months old
In our youngest classroom, nurturing relationships are at the heart of our approach. Our teachers focus on creating safe and secure attachments, allowing children to explore their world with confidence. We support each child’s developmental milestones through individualized care routines and rich opportunities for environmental exploration.
We offer a sensory-rich environment filled with captivating materials for hands-on exploration. Our classroom features engaging artistic and scientific experiences that spark curiosity and wonder. By fostering these early experiences, we support children in their journey of growth and discovery.
Eagle Class 3.5 - 7 years old
In our older classroom, we embrace the inquisitive nature of this age group, fostering their natural curiosity and encouraging them to explore big questions and seek out their own answers. As children become more social, they delight in playing with peers, sharing stories, and engaging in games. These interactions help them build meaningful friendships and understand the essence of being a friend.
Our focus is on equipping children with the skills they need to thrive in their next educational chapter. We leverage their love for storytelling by incorporating dramatic play, story creation, and repeated readings into our curriculum. This approach supports early literacy development, including understanding story structures, print awareness, and emergent writing skills. Through these engaging activities, we help children develop the foundational skills necessary for continued success in their educational journey.
After School Care 5 - 7 years old
Hope Harbor’s after-school program is a warm, welcoming place where young elementary children can relax, connect, and continue learning after the school day ends. Designed for Kindergarten through second-grade students, our program offers a safe and nurturing environment that feels like an extension of home and school, where children are cared for by trusted educators who value relationships, creativity, and emotional well-being.
Each afternoon includes enriching activities, shared snack time, and opportunities for play and connection, supporting children’s social growth and confidence while giving families peace of mind knowing their child is in a loving, supportive space.

The Gardens
@ Hope Harbor
The Gardens @ Hope Harbor is a dynamic outdoor learning space designed to engage children’s senses, spark curiosity, and deepen their connection with nature. This edible garden features a vegetable bed alongside a perimeter of native wildflowers and easy-to-pick sensory-rich plants, offering young learners hands-on opportunities to plant, harvest, and taste fresh produce.
More than just a garden, this space serves as a living classroom where children can experience the joy of growing their own food, observe pollinators in action, and develop a lifelong appreciation for sustainability and environmental stewardship.
By fostering child-led exploration and social-emotional learning, The Gardens @ Hope Harbor nurtures both the land and the children who tend it, ensuring a future rooted in curiosity, care, and connection.
The Children’s
Pantry
At Hope Harbor, we believe that care extends beyond the classroom and into the daily lives of the children and families we serve. With this commitment in mind and our partnership and collaboration with 36 Weekends, we are proud to introduce The Children's Pantry, a welcoming space where families can trade, donate, or take essential items such as food, clothing, diapers, and toys, free of charge.
We know that a child's ability to engage, focus, and learn starts with feeling safe and secure. However, when basic needs go unmet, it becomes difficult for children to fully experience the joy of learning and play. The Children's Pantry was created as a practical and compassionate response to this reality, ensuring that all families in our community have access to the resources they need.
The need for such an initiative is significant. In Friday Harbor, 20% of children live below the poverty level, a rate 1.5 times higher than the state average. The Children's Pantry is a small but meaningful way to help bridge this gap and provide families with tangible support.
Located at Hope Harbor Children's Center at St. David's, The Children's Pantry is open to all families in need. We invite our community to participate, whether by donating, exchanging, or simply spreading the word. This initiative is built on the power of mutual support, and together, we can create a stronger, more connected San Juan Island where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
This program is sponsored by the San Juan Island Rotary Club, Hope Harbor Enterprises, and community donors. If registered for weekend delivery with 36 Weekends, your child(ren) will receive a bag filled with easy-to-prepare foods and snacks to eat over the weekend. Bags are delivered to your home or can be picked up on Thursdays or Fridays.
This is not a government program, and it is privately funded. No information, data, demographics, or other identifying factors are shared with anyone other than the delivery driver (who only receives an address).
If you would like to register your child(ren) for this program, but do not want bags delivered to your home, you are welcome to list our center address, and our team can distribute the bags to your child(ren).
Register your child for ‘36 Weekends’ nutrition delivery.
